Snakes seem to be some of the most feared and misunderstood creatures in the animal kingdom. Is it because they have no legs and slither on their bellies? Is it because their eyes are always staring and never blink? Is it because they move so stealthily and quietly and seem to sneak up on us? Most likely, it is a combination of all of these plus the fact that some snakes are extremely dangerous to humans. While snakes can be deadly, the vast majority are non-venomous and are not aggressive in nature. In this study, we will learn some of the ways to distinguish between non-venomous and venomous snakes. Of course, there are exceptions to every rule. The best way to tell them apart is to learn about the specific snakes in your region and to be able to identify the different species in case you ever encounter them in the wild.
